"Grand Designs" star says the smart home is getting smarter

Kevin McCloud, the star of the U.K. TV show "Grand Designs," says today's advancements in consumer electronics mean that the smart home doesn't just have to be about top-notch entertainment anymore. "I like the idea of home automation and systems that run so that they serve a useful purpose. For example -- a system that tells me how much energy I'm using so that if I've left the lights on or left a window open, it will tell me. I think we're moving to the point now where home automation isn't just about home entertainment."
