Bolt problems may delay Labor Day opening of Calif.'s Bay Bridge

The opening date of the $6 billion San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in California remains unclear due to concerns about failed bolts used in its construction. "What [the public] said is that the most important thing for us is to have it be safe and feel confident that it's safe," said Metropolitan Transportation Commission Chairwoman Amy Rein Worth. Caltrans is set to discuss on Wednesday its plans to repair the broken bolts. It may be decided that it's safe to keep the broken bolts in place for a year before replacing them.
