Complying with the HIPAA Omnibus Rule

Companies may need to update their business practices to address changes that went into effect with the enactment of the final HIPAA Omnibus Rule. Companies could have to enact additional protections for patients when they access protected health information under the rule, which could also change how health care providers use or disclose the information. The rule also requires that HHS conducts compliance audits on a proactive basis, rather than solely in response to complaints.
