EU takes aim at food-label fraud

The EU is proposing higher fines for food-label fraud and unannounced inspections of food operators, after a scandal involving mislabeled horse meat. "Restoring the trust and confidence of our citizens and trading partners is key given that the agri-food industry is the second-largest economic sector in the EU," Health and Consumer Policy Commissioner Tonio Borg said.
