Guidelines, settlement open door to HBV-positive practice

A legal settlement declaring hepatitis B patients protected by federal disability law, along with revised guidelines saying medical workers with HBV pose little or no risk to patients, remove clinical practice barriers and help prevent discrimination, experts say. The CDC's Dr. John Ward said the guidelines convey a "powerful message" that in most clinical situations, patients are not at risk of becoming infected by health care providers.
