"Harriet," the $45 million tunnel boring machine, finished excavation work this morning on the $1 billion PortMiami tunnel project, completing the tunnel's second leg. Excavation began in 2011. The borer will now be dismantled. "Whatever can be saved will be saved, the electric motors, the hydraulics. But all other parts will be recycled for future projects or just recycled," said Chris Hodgkins, Miami Access Tunnel vice president. Now the roads inside the tunnels will be built.
