Japan official visits Chernobyl to learn about decommissioning programs

A key Japanese government minister visited the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine over the weekend to learn about effective programs for decommissioning and the proper care for people affected by nuclear incidents. Takumi Nemoto, who oversees reconstruction in areas affected by the Fukushima Daiichi incident, said information dissemination and mental health care are some of the issues that should be addressed in the aftermath of the incident. Ukraine has several sites providing such care, Nemoto said.
