Rebounding U.S. housing market not the economic engine it used to be

The recovery of U.S. housing prices isn't producing quite the lift to broader economic activity that a buoyant property market has generated in the past. Consumers appear more inclined to pay down mortgages than to tap into their equity to generate more spending.
