Report: Google to begin charging for up to 50 YouTube channels

Google reportedly will institute a subscription fee for access to up to 50 of its more specialized YouTube channels in an effort to finance the creation of new content and better compete with platforms such as Netflix and Hulu. YouTube said it's "looking into creating a subscription platform that could bring even more great content to YouTube for our users to enjoy and provide our creators with another vehicle to generate revenue from their content, beyond the rental and ad-supported models we offer."
