States tighten oversight of large compounding operations

Five states have passed laws to more tightly regulate large-scale compounding pharmacies, and similar bills are under consideration in nine others, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Meanwhile, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has conducted 150 inspections and plans 150 more, and a Senate committee will hold hearings on a draft bill giving the FDA greater inspection and oversight authority over compounders.
