STB denies tariff on TIH shipments

The Surface Transportation Board has ruled against a proposed tariff by Union Pacific that would have increased chemical companies' liability for Toxic Inhalation Hazard shipments. The company could not convince the board its proposal was reasonable, according to this article. "By rejecting this unreasonably broad tariff, the STB avoided setting a dangerous precedent that would have undermined the federal common carrier obligation that is intended to preserve shippers' access to freight rail service," ACC said.
