USDA broadband policy aims to help rural communities

The U.S. Agriculture Department took steps Friday to broaden access to broadband in rural areas by making it easier for municipalities to apply for and receive government grant money. Specifically, the agency revised its regulations to accommodate areas that would have failed to qualify as territories under the prior system, which relied on census data and commercial atlases.
