Why wellness programs might be overrated

The costs of implementing and maintaining wellness programs might outweigh the savings they generate, some experts say. Wellness programs often subject workers to more preventive treatment and screenings than they need. "You have to identify and medicate tons and tons of people to prevent one or two from getting sick," says Al Lewis, who used to consult employers about their health plans.
