AHIMA offers recommendations for addressing EHR concerns

More research is needed to determine how the use of EHRs is affecting coding, which many believe is resulting in providers receiving higher levels of reimbursement, American Health Information Management Association leader Sue Bowman told ONC and CMS officials during a listening session Friday. To address the issues tied to electronic health records, Bowman urged the CMS to devise national coding standards for hospital reporting of clinic and emergency department visits, among other recommendations.
