Analysis: Marine Corps faces more uncertainty than other service branches

The Marine Corps' small size and unclear mission are making it a vulnerable target for policymakers who want to reduce the size of the military, experts say. The force, which is technically a subsidiary of the Navy, has not performed a large-scale amphibious assault in decades, and some officials have suggested the branch's combat operations could be performed by the Army, Navy and Special Forces.
