BNEF: Overall spending slumped, clean-energy installations are up

Global clean-technology spending fell 22% in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2012 and 38% compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, thanks to policy uncertainty in key markets, financing lulls in markets such as China and Brazil and dwindling technology costs, according to Michael Liebreich, CEO of Bloomberg New Energy Finance. However, the declining cost of clean tech has helped fuel a record installation of new capacity around the world, including a record 48.6 gigawatts of new wind power capacity, Liebreich said.
