Boston bombing was Twitter's saddest day in years, researchers say

Following the Boston Marathon bombing, the average mood of Twitter users fell to its lowest level in at least five years, researchers say. That finding is based on the output of the "Hedonometer," a Twitter-powered sentiment-analysis platform that studies 50 million tweets each day against thousands of key terms. "[T]he tool also offers some stunning insight into the way we -- the collective, en masse, Internet 'we' -- live, feel and communicate now," Caitlin Dewey writes.
