Canada fails to get WTO support for Ontario's FIT program

The World Trade Organization decided against Canada on an appeal of the legal basis of local content requirements in Ontario's renewable energy feed-in tariff program. The requirements oppose the General Agreement on Tariffs and the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures, according to an appeals panel. "Today's ruling is good news for everyone caring about clean energy and the environment: it has been made clear that use of quality, cost-effective technologies should not be hampered by protectionist measures," said an EU spokesman.
