Carolinas HealthCare opens virtual ICU command hub

Carolinas HealthCare System is opening a virtual ICU command center for its hospitals that will allow intensive care specialists to monitor patient conditions and speak with patients if they are able to communicate. The hospital system is spending almost $12.5 million to install the technology. Chief academic officer Dr. Jim McDeavitt said the goal is not to displace physicians or nurses but to add "a new brain to the care delivery system."
