CFPB investigation leads to first criminal charges

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has filed civil charges against Mission Settlement Agency and Premier Consultant Group, alleging fraudulent telemarketing sales that involved promises of reducing consumer debt by negotiating with credit card companies and banks. In related action, the Justice Department has filed charges against Mission, its owner and three employees for allegedly defrauding customers. It's the first time the DOJ has filed criminal charges based on a CFPB referral.
