Group recommends lung cancer screening for heavy smokers

The American College of Chest Physicians released new guidelines urging providers to offer yearly low-dose CT scans to individuals at high risk for lung cancer. They include smokers ages 55 to 74 with more than the equivalent of 30 years with a pack-a-day smoking habit and former smokers with similar profiles who stopped within the past 15 years.
