How Facebook and Intel collaborate on designing chips

Facebook and Intel have been collaborating since 2009 on designing customized processors for the social network to use in its custom-built servers, Cade Metz writes. Facebook's Frank Frankovsky says, "The more insight we can give our technology suppliers about what makes our software work the best, the more we're able to influence their design road maps. We do influence their road maps -- way upstream -- but then they are able to bring these changes out to all of their customers."
