J.R. Simplot submits biotech potatoes for review

The Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is seeking public comments on J.R. Simplot's petition to deregulate its Innate biotech potatoes, which are less prone to black spots and produce less acrylamide. In its petition, the Idaho-based firm said the "potatoes are unlikely to pose a plant pest risk and, therefore, should not be a regulated article under APHIS' regulations in 7 CFR part 340."
