Maine hospital system partners with insurer on ACO

MaineHealth and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield have established an accountable care organization with the goal of lowering costs while improving patient care. Under the deal, MaineHealth will receive a portion of any savings realized as long as certain standards are met, such as preventive health screenings and patient satisfaction. The arrangement will allow MaineHealth to "combine information ... from the insurance side and the health system side" to identify and meet patient needs, said Andrea Patstone, MaineHealth's vice president of strategic initiatives.
