N.Y. medical center confirms patient data breach

The University of Rochester Medical Center has notified 537 former orthopedic patients about a data breach that occurred when a USB computer flash drive with protected health data was misplaced by a resident doctor. Compromised data included patients' names, medical record numbers, birth dates and diagnoses but did not include addresses, Social Security numbers or insurance information.
