Plastic surgery is one of the medical advances that might make modern humans seem superhuman to our ancestors, Mark Joseph Stern writes. Initially developed during World War I to help injured troops, plastic surgery has become commonplace in the general population to enhance appearance. The birth control pill, in vitro fertilization, aspirin and LASIK surgery are the other advances Stern highlights.
