Riding mower accidents peak in May

About two-thirds of riding mower accidents requiring emergency care happen between May and August, with the peak in May, according to this article. One major risk factor is mowing on steep embankments, on which mowers can tip over. Many models have a safety switch on the seat that shuts off blades when the machine overturns, but "people sometimes disengage that switch," noted Dennis Raymond, owner of Liberty Discount Lawn Equipment in Upperco, Md.
