Rural telecom leads FCC lobbying for Alaska

Weather conditions make Alaska a challenging location for construction, but the Federal Communications Commission apparently views the state as easier for broadband installation than Puerto Rico, this article notes. The Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative, a rural telecom, is urging its customers to petition the FCC to restore Universal Service Fund money to the cooperative, which stands to lose more than $473,000 in federal funding this year.
