Vendors turn to SDN, open source to assist telecoms

Faced with declining voice revenues, the proliferation of all-IP networks and rising demand for new data services, telecoms are looking to adopt technologies that cut costs and enhance efficiency. For vendors such as Metaswitch, this means opportunities to help telecom clients make the leap into open source and software-defined networking. Metaswitch recently introduced Project Clearwater, a new open-source IMS core for telephone networks designed to help telecoms use legacy analog infrastructure with digital services.
