Expert encourages hospitals to educate patients on ACOs

Almost 60% of American adults responding to a recent survey said they don't know how the Affordable Care Act will affect them, a trend suggesting that many hospitals are not educating patients about accountable care organizations and other upcoming changes. To get patient buy-in for ACOs, hospitals should market these efforts as a way to enhance the patient experience. "No patient will complain about better care and better care coordination," said David Muhlestein, a senior analyst at Leavitt Partners.
