FTC warns data brokers to comply with privacy law

The Federal Trade Commission has sent letters to 10 companies that sell consumer data through the Internet and toll-free numbers warning that they might be violating U.S. privacy law. If the companies are considered "consumer reporting agencies" and they fail to confirm their customers have the right to obtain the data, they could be in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the FTC says.
