Iron Man fiction points to a nano-enhanced real future

The nanoparticles that make up Extremis in the new Iron Man movie are not as far-fetched as audiences might think, says Shuming Nie, professor of biomedical engineering at Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. In the next few years nanoparticles are likely to be applied in medicine to enhance physical performance and aid in surgery, Nie said.
