Long Beach, Calif., planners look to modernize sign codes

Staff members presented the Long Beach, Calif., Planning Commission with proposed revisions to the city's sign ordinance, which hasn't been updated in nearly 25 years. "We really tried to modernize a lot of the language," planning administrator Derek Burnham said. "A lot of it dates back to the 1970s. We wanted to deal with the quality of signs, and to create a path for more creative signs."
