Outdated ideas keep some pregnant women away from the dentist

Though pregnancy is linked to gum inflammation, and delaying dental care can be dangerous, many pregnant women do not get timely dental care, experts say. Some dentists fear treatment will harm the fetus, some pregnant women believe dental care during pregnancy is dangerous, and some obstetricians fail to screen pregnant patients for oral health issues. Dental associations have declared dental care is safe for pregnant women, including diagnostic imaging, root canal treatments and fillings.
