Program seeks to turn roofs white at community centers in Phoenix

The Cool Roofs Initiative in Phoenix seeks to turn roofs white at the city's community centers, fire stations and other city-owned buildings. The program aims to paint about 71,000 square feet of roofs in a bid to cut 5% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2015. The reflective paint allows heat to bounce back from the roof and reduces its entry to the sides of the building, said Alonso Avitia with the City Manager’s Office.
