Researchers unveil floating wind turbine platform in Maine

The University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center has unveiled a prototype floating platform for offshore wind turbines. The VolturnUS prototype is scheduled for deployment off the coast of Castine, Maine, later this month. The VolturnUS will be North America's first grid-linked floating wind turbine and the world's first floating turbine made of concrete composite, said Habib Dagher, the center's director.
