Stronger border security urged for proposed immigration overhaul

Measures on border security should be tightened under a proposal to overhaul immigration, some Republican senators said during a hearing Tuesday. "If in fact the American people can’t trust that the border is controlled you’re not going to be able to pass this bill," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. The bill would designate $5.5 billion toward 100% border surveillance and measures that would deter 90% of those who cross it illegally at high-entrance areas.
