Schools should be a "national focal point" for obesity-prevention efforts, according to a recent report that recommends, among other things, that students receive a minimum of an hour of physical education each day. The report by the Institute of Medicine found that schools are integral to curbing childhood obesity rates because students consume up to half of their daily calories at school. The report's other recommendations include a tax on sugar-sweetened drinks and changes to how companies market food to youth.
