Calif. city council OKs rail yard for cargo movement

The Los Angeles City Council has approved construction of the $500 million Southern California International Gateway rail yard near the Port of Los Angeles. The project is meant to shorten the trip of trucks transferring cargo from ships to trains. Supporters, including business and labor groups, say the project will create jobs and reduce pollution. Opponents, including environmental groups, say the rail yard will increase pollution.
