To grow a healthy tree without harmful pests, it may be wise to select a type that is different from others in the neighborhood, according to some plant experts. Adding variety can reduce the impact of harmful insects, said Lauren Lanphear of Forest City Tree Protection in South Euclid, Ohio. The type of soil and the planting site should also be considered when selecting trees.
