A coalition of science-oriented foundations announced a drive to double both philanthropic foundation donations and donations from independent philanthropists to $4 billion annually within the next 15 years. A lack of support for basic research harms the economy and puts at risk the discoveries from a generation of future researchers, says Kavli Foundation President Robert Conn. The coalition includes the Kavli Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the W.M Keck Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Simons Foundation and the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
