Could new software program be a game-changer in grading?

Xerox is planning to release a software program later this year that will allow schools' existing copiers, scanners and printers -- of the same brand -- to be used to grade papers and analyze the data. The Ignite program goes beyond multiple-choice analysis, grading answers in the form in which students write them -- including numeric answers -- and then making data accessible to teachers online. "It is a major game changer," said Jan Barrett, retired principal of DeWitt Road Elementary School, where the system was created. "It really elevates instruction in the classroom to a much more empirical level."
