States and the federal government could realize $74.4 billion in savings on Medicaid by embracing cost-cutting tools developed by pharmacy benefit managers, such as preferred pharmacy networks and greater generic drug utilization, according to research from The Menges Group. "These are commonsense ideas for helping to rein in government healthcare spending," writes Edward Lawrence.
