Ideas on involving students in the scaffolding process

When teaching quadratics, middle-grades math teacher Marsha Ratzel writes in this blog post that she structured her lesson so students could offer input and help direct how she taught them to reason out math problems. Ratzel was able to "think aloud" to help them learn the process needed to solve each particular problem. "I create a scaffolding technique, but students helped me add, delete and amend it until it worked for the way they think," she writes.
