IRS says it will not search e-mails without a warrant

The Internal Revenue Service issued a policy statement on Wednesday in which it said in criminal cases, it will not ask for taxpayer e-mails from an ISP without first obtaining a search warrant, and it will not ask for them at all in civil cases. The IRS's previous policy -- that it generally did not need a warrant -- had caused a stir when it was revealed in April.
