Psychiatry is undergoing a slow but seismic shift as the National Institute of Mental Health adopts a new approach for research involving mental illness, Matthew Herper writes. The development of psychiatric treatments has come to a dead-end, Herper writes. A study commissioned by PhRMA found that only 303 psychiatric medicines are under development, compared with 1,247 treatments for other neurological diseases and 3,436 cancer drugs.
