Starwood Hotels plans to boost conversions in Middle East and Africa

Executives at Starwood Hotels & Resorts say that conversion projects likely will play a large role in their expansion drive in the Middle East, owing to the numerous opportunities for conversions there. "Conversions are very attractive propositions from a growth standpoint. It is something we have been thinking very carefully internally over the last couple of years," said Neil George, Starwood's vice president for acquisitions and development in Africa and the Middle East. Starwood is looking to complete four or five conversions in the Middle East and Africa this year, George said.
