U.S., European firms making strides in next-generation biofuels

Companies in the U.S. and Europe are making advances in the development of next-generation biofuels, writes Sean Ottewell. Among the firms is Florida-based direct-to-ethanol developer Algenol Biofuels, which has achieved a production milestone that compares favorably with current corn ethanol yield-per-acre rates. And Wisconsin-based Virent has sent a batch of its renewable jet fuel to the Air Force for validation.
