FCC ruling could lead to earlier releases on VOD titles

Customers of FiOS TV and U-verse TV, as well as those from cable and satellite companies, might be able to play theatrical films soon after their release. The FCC on Friday approved a two-year-old request from studios to block video analog signals so viewers cannot copy them on their home equipment and sell the pirated materials. MPAA President Bob Pisano said the FCC's action would encourage studios to release HD movies to video-on-demand platforms at earlier dates.
