Don't blame Social Security for deficit, Baucus says

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said Social Security didn't cause the budget deficit and should not be changed to help deal with the shortfall. "Social Security benefits are financed only through payroll taxes and the Trust Fund," he said. "Social Security is not responsible for the deficits we face in the general fund today."
